Security risks
San Francisco — October 18,
2006 - Mocana, a provider of complete
open standards-based security solutions that are easy to use, flexible,
and high performance, today announced its membership in the Wi-Fi
Alliance® and the WiMAX Forum™. Joining these organizations will
enable Mocana to contribute to the development of industry standards
and programs that will provide greater levels of security for wireless
networks and services all the way to edge devices.
The Wi-Fi
Alliance is a global, non-profit industry association of
more than 275 member companies devoted to promoting the
growth of wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). Its testing
and certification programs ensure the interoperability of
WLAN products based on the IEEE 802.11 specification. The
WiMAX Forum is an industry-led, non-profit corporation formed
to help promote and certify the compatibility and interoperability
of broadband wireless products using the IEEE 802.16 and
ETSI HiperMAN wireless MAN specifications. The forum’s goal
is to accelerate the introduction of these devices into
the marketplace.
“We are excited to be a part of these industry organizations
and look forward to helping to shape the security strategy
and direction in these rapidly growing wireless markets,”
said Adrian Turner, Chief Executive Officer, Mocana. "A
comprehensive security approach is absolutely necessary
in order to unleash the full commercial potential of wireless.
Working with other industry leaders and fellow members of
these groups will position Mocana to help accelerate the
development of standards-based and interoperable solutions
to meet existing and emerging customer needs."
”We’re pleased to welcome Mocana to the Wi-Fi Alliance,”
said Frank Hanzlik, Managing Director of the Wi-Fi Alliance.
“Our member companies are committed to promoting the growth
of wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), and security is
a fundamental component of this growth. We look forward
to Mocana’s contributions moving forward.”
“As an organization committed to the open interoperability
of products delivering broadband wireless services, we certainly
understand the important role security plays in the development
of such services,” said Ron Resnick, President of the WiMAX
Forum. “We’re counting on Mocana’s thought leadership, vision
and technology expertise to help ensure that security remains
a key component of our certification efforts.”
