Leading Latin American Software Provider Selects Mocana to Secure its Award-Winning Point-of-Sale Solution

Mocana adds electronic financial transfer software vendor to its growing list of customers

SAN FRANCISCO – November 19, 2007 –Mocana, a software company that is enabling a secure networked society, announced that APPI Tecnologia, a global provider of electronic financial transfer software, has selected Mocana’s Embedded SSL Client to secure its POSWEB Browser. APPI’s POSWEB Browser, a software layer which allows point-of-sale (POS) terminals to connect to TCP/IP networks, secures POS resources by acting as the operating system.

The POSWEB Browser enables any POS terminal to execute applications located in servers connected to the POS network using TCP/IP. Mocana provides enhanced embedded security to ensure that all financial data moving across these networks is completely secure. With Mocana’s Embedded SSL Client APPI can now guarantee a secure, quality product for its customers that will effectively protect data during every transaction that takes place on POS devices transacting over a network.

Mocana’s Embedded SSL Client provides endpoint authentication, protecting against POS threats such as eavesdropping, message forgery and interference. APPI selected Mocana’s Embedded SSL Client for its ease of integration into their POSWEB Browser product, the small footprint yet high scalability of Mocana’s software, and knowing they would be able to count on Mocana for future security needs.

“As a provider of electronic financial transfer software, we are keenly aware of the security implications that arise for any device connected to a network. Mocana’s Embedded SSL Client addresses the concerns of our customers who must ensure their POS devices are 100 percent secure,” said Luis Filipe Cavalcanti, Executive Technology Officer, APPI Tecnologia. “We have found a strong partner in Mocana as we consider the future security requirements our customers may demand.”

SSL is the security protocol of choice, widely used in today’s e-commerce environments. Mocana’s SSL Client is a full featured, RFC compliant and portable product that is compact and easy to use. The SSL Client is one component of Mocana’s Device Security Framework, which is made up of 10 embeddable components available individually or as a bundle that OEMs and providers of internet-based services can leverage to secure next generation devices and services. Extensible, suited to work with single and multi-core processors, and able to leverage hardware acceleration, Mocana’s Device Security Framework offers high levels of scalability and performance with an extremely small footprint.

“Our Device Security Framework is prepared to address current security needs and is well positioned to protect our customers as new concerns and threats emerge,” said Adrian Turner, CEO, Mocana. “Working with a point-of-sale software vendor such as APPI Tecnologia further validates the strength and versatility of our product line.”
