New 5.1 Release Offers Device OEMs Powerful New FIPS-Certified Embedded Security Tools for Protecting IP Connected Devices
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – ( Marketwire-September 9, 2009) –Today Mocana announced the general availability of the new 5.1 release of its Device Security Framework™, the industry's most comprehensive suite of solutions designed to protect the integrity of connected devices. More than 100 major OEM companies including Cisco, Intel, General Electric, Honeywell, Motorola and Siemens rely on Mocana's Device Security Framework to protect the networked non-PC devices they sell into the consumer, medical, industrial, IT and military markets.
Developers can get a free evaluation copy of the new 5.1 release at http://mocana.com/evaluate.html. Mocana customers under a current support contract will receive the upgrade automatically, at no additional charge.
"We're beginning to see a lot more attacks on non-PC devices," said Adrian Turner, President and CEO of Mocana. "Sophisticated attacks evolved on PCs, and they've grown a lot more virulent on the Internet. Now that malware is being re-targeted toward non-PC devices, like smartphones and medical monitors, most of these devices are pretty defenseless. Unfortunately, traditional PC security approaches don't translate very well to the device ecosystem. A fundamentally different approach is required to protect the integrity of non-PC devices, and we think we've found it."
The New 5.1 release of the Device Security Framework comprises a series of components that together provide sophisticated, multi-layered integrity protection for devices. All are available as government-certified FIPS 140-2 level 1 validated binaries, or in source:
NanoSec
An up-to-the-minute IPSec, IKEv1/v2 and MOBIKE solution for developers building device-based VPNs, with an integrated firewall and robust certificate management capabilities.
NanoSSH
An ultra-optimized SSH solution with RADIUS support, perfect for encrypting device communications over untrusted networks.
NanoSSL
A superfast, ultra-optimized SSL client and server solution built for constrained device environments or applications where performance is critical.
NanoDefender
A totally new and unique approach to secure boot, trusted updating and malware protection for devices that doesn't degrade performance or waste battery life.
NanoWireless
A comprehensive wireless device solution including WPA2, EAP supplicant, 802.11 extensions, certificate management, RADIUS and SSL support.
NanoVOIP
A complete Voice over IP (VOIP) security solution for VOIP developers, including device-optimized SRTP, DTLS, firewalling and certificate management.
NanoCrypto
A miniaturized, device-optimized cryptographic engine with support for NSA Suite B cryptography, RSA, AES and Elliptic Curve encryption.
These are just a few of the software products that make up the new 5.1 release of Mocana's Device Security Framework (DSF 5.1), which offers numerous benefits to device developers and product managers.
For instance, DSF 5.1 fits into tiny memory footprints where other implementations simply can't, and offers much better performance than open-source packages. DSF 5.1's core cryptographic engine is available in source, or as a government-certified FIPS 140-2 Level 1 validated binary. Both source and binary versions include full support for NSA's Suite B algorithms that provide government agencies and contractors another option for secure communications when classified "Suite A" algorithms are inappropriate, or not available.
DSF 5.1 has been specifically engineered to allow teams to get better, more secure devices to market faster. And DSF 5.1 contains absolutely no GPL code, so companies can be confident that their intellectual property won't accidentally become public domain because of "GPL contamination."
The 5.1 release is available today for 30 different operating systems and more than 70 CPUs. Platforms supported include Linux, Monta Vista Linux, VxWorks, OSE, Nucleus, Solaris, ThreadX, Windows, MacOS X, (ARC) MQX, pSOS, and Cygwin. DSF 5.1 is platform independent, endian-neutral, and can be used without an OS or RTOS.
The 5.1 release of Mocana's Device Security Framework also features an extremely powerful but easy-to-use API, hiding all of the crypto complexity. Mocana's developer support team -- staffed by US-based engineers -- is always available to answer customer questions about cryptography, our products, or embedded development in general.

About Mocana
Mocana secures the "Internet of Things" -- the 20 billion datacom, smartgrid, federal, consumer, industrial and medical devices that connect across every sector of our economy. These devices already outnumber PC's on the Internet by five to one, representing a $900 billion market that's growing twice as fast as the PC market. Every day, millions of people use products sold by over 100 companies that leverage Mocana's Device Integrity software, including Dell, Cisco, Honeywell, General Electric, General Dynamics, Avaya, Nortel Networks, Harris and Radvision, among others. Mocana won Frost & Sullivan's Technology Innovation of the Year award for 2008 for Device Security, and was named to the Red Herring Global 100 as one of the "top 100 privately-held technology companies in the world" in January 2009.
