USAF Unveils "Cyberspace" Badge

The digital age calls for a new breed of heroes, and as world leaders anticipate that cyberspace will be the next great theater in the war on terror, the U.S. Air Force has stepped up to deliver a new set of wings for the chosen few who will fight for our nation's networks.

Called the "Cyberspace Badge", this medal of honor will be worn exclusively by officers who've proven their digital grit by completing the "X-Course", also known as the Distance Learning Cyberspace Operations Transition Course. Its institution reflects the updated role of the Air Force mission - "to fly, fight and win in air, space and cyberspace".

The new wings symbolize "the projection of cyber power world-wide" and will be worn by members of the 24th Air Force, the USAF's network security organization. While this branch of the armed forces is still being built, it is expected to be on the front line of defense in cyberspace.
