Gartner Analysts Say Healthcare Needs A Security Reset

Gartner 2013 Security & Risk Summit —At a presentation on medical fraud and the enterprise, Gartner analyst Christina Lucero echoed the theme of the conference by saying that with healthcare reform set to fully kick in next year, it's time for a security reset within healthcare. She talked about "opportunistic fraud," where someone falsifies a dependent's birthday to get longer care or when procedures are done on someone else's insurance plan.

"What if you needed a particular treatment," she asked the audience, "and were denied because you supposedly already already had that treatment." This, she said. That's an example of traditional medical fraud.
