A new botnet kit for Android uses valid developer accounts to post its wares on Google Play.

According to original research by KrebsOnSecurity, Google charges a mere $25 for developers who wish to sell their products on Google Play, the accounts must also be approved and tied to a specific domain. However, the developer of a botnet kit has been buying these accounts for $100 each. Brian Krebs has traced the malicious code developer to Android SMS malware packages that targets customers of Citibank, HSBC and ING, as well as 66 other financial institutions in Australia, France, India, Italy, Germany, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey.
