The IoT Ecosystem
The origin of trusted devices, such as sensors, actuators, controllers, edge gateways, and edge compute nodes will require protection controls for supply chain risk management, import/export controls, and field device interoperability. Industry standards and compliance (e.g. IEC 62443, NERC CIP, NIST 800-53/800-63-3, FCG) will require device vendors, owners, and operators to embed and enforce security countermeasures.

Implementing device protection will require a diverse set of security controls to be installed on the platform at manufacture by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), loaded on the finished product by the original device manufacturer (ODM), and monitored by the managed security service provider (MSSP) for audits and risk reports. Developers of line of business applications can leverage protection controls provided by the development platform to secure device operations and end user data.
