A British satellite has a something unique: an off-the-shelf Android phone bolted on.

The recently launched Surrey Training, Research, and Nanosatellite Demonstrator or STRaND-1 will attempt to show whether Android is a viable platform for controlling low-cost spacecraft. In April NASA's "PhoneSat" will launch into space with a Nexus One and Nexus S. They will be strapped aboard a Orbital Sciences Antares commercial launch vehicle, considered to be the prime competitor to SpaceX's Falcon 9.

The Powerbase has more about the STRaND launch.
